About JMP
John Mann Packaging is a second-generation packaging company with its home base in Salinas, CA. My father started Robert Mann Packaging in 1971 and for many years I worked by his side. I learned the business from the ground up, and when we sold that family business in 2015, I remained in place for another four years to assure a sound transition. In 2019, confident that it was time for something a little different, I, and a handful of talented people, launched JMP with the simple mission: to support your goals.
Because we don’t manufacture product ourselves, we can be platform agnostic in finding your perfect packaging solution. Yes, we have our favored supplier partners, but your business needs come first. We still have family business values and most of our customers run family businesses too. Together we can get your design parameters just right, plus we can help you with inventory management and high service distribution, giving you access to warehouses in California, Baja, Central Mexico and Florida. We also plan for the required end-of-life decisions for each product, providing mentorship and practical advice on materials and recycling programs that you’ll be proud to share with your consumers.
In regard to range, today our business represents approximately 50% rigid plastic, and 50% corrugated paper products which work hand-in-hand to become a total package for your needs. To learn more please visit our Products section .
Like RMP before us, as a privately owned and independent business, we continue to be lean and very agile. And like every other company you’re possibly comparing us with, we believe in providing the kind of service that exceeds expectations. But excellent customer service is table stakes – for us it’s about making a deeper commitment. We will move mountains for you.
These are the commitments we’ve become recognized for.
Commitment #1.
To be dedicated team players. We’ll micromanage the details because your success really is our obsession. You’ll know exactly who has your back at each point in the process.
Commitment #2.
To examine, squeeze, and optimize efficiencies – whether that’s in design, in distribution, or through offering single source solutions with trusted partners. Is it too early in our relationship to tell you we’re in this for the long haul?
Commitment #3.
To solve for the unexpected – fast. Because we’re independent we can both forecast and expedite faster than anyone else in the industry, no red tape or bureaucracy. it’s just us, in it together whatever the weather.
If you already entrust us with your business, or are considering doing so, I and the JMP team thank you. It’s never taken for granted and always very much appreciated. From our work family to yours, we wish you a very strong season ahead.
We specialize in sourcing and business modeling in these primary categories:
And don’t forget labeling! We recommend wash-away BOPP labels
BOPP (Biaxially Oriented PolyPropylene) is a labeling material made of thin white polypropylene plastic film. It’s more durable than a regular paper label and it has big advantages during the recycling process.
When PET containers are recycled they are thoroughly machine washed and scrubbed. At this time the BOPP labels will cleanly separate and float to the top of the water tank where they can be swept to one side. This guarantees that the plastic container can be fully recycled versus being negatively impacted by an overly sticky paper label that refuses to be removed.
We can supply you with labeled and padded clamshells.
It’s no secret that we have strong relationship with Pratt and Direct Pack Inc. In fact, JMP is the exclusive sales and customer service arm for DPI as it relates to berry packaging.
What’s more interesting is the commitment that our three entities make to sustainability.
And in regard to produce packaging, while we still have to use some virgin paper because of the high moisture content related to the produce, we can guarantee that 50% is post consumer.
Direct Pack have been making their own investments to close the recycling loop with thermoformed products. Now running their own Recycling facilities and driving material back into production – ensuring that all post consumer PET remains in an infinite loop.
